Synopsis

A married couple is woken in the dead of night by a mysterious phone call.

Unable to sleep, they are drawn into an unsettling examination of their fears and desires.

Based on a story by celebrated writer Raymond Carver (Short Cuts), Whoever Was Using This Bed is a multi-award winning short psychological drama with an internationally acclaimed cast including Jean-Marc Barr (The Big Blue), Radha Mitchell (Melinda and Melinda) and Jane Birkin (Blow-Up).

Cast

 Jean-Marc Barr (Ray)

 Jean-Marc is the star of Luc Besson’s The Big Blue, one of the most significant French films of the 1980s. A graduate of UCLA, the Sorbonne and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, his other credits include John Boorman’s Hope and Glory and Lars von Trier’s films Europa, Breaking the Waves and Nymphomaniac. An independent filmmaker in his own right, Jean-Marc most recently portrayed legendary American author Jack Kerouac in Michael Polish’s film Big Sur co-starring Radha Mitchell.

 Radha Mitchell (Iris)

Born in Australia, Radha rose to prominence in the US appearing in such high-profile films as High Art, Pitch Black, Finding Neverland, Man on Fire and Silent Hill. Over the past decade, she has established a reputation as one of the most versatile and talented actresses in Hollywood. Radha was widely acclaimed for her lead role in Woody Allen’s Melinda and Melinda. Her recent credits include Looking For Grace, London Has Fallen and The Shack with Sam Worthington.

 Jane Birkin (The Caller)

Jane is an English actress and singer based in France who shot to international fame in Michelangelo Antonioni’s film Blow-Up. Her collaborations with the late French musician Serge Gainsbourg have been hugely influential with artists such as Beck, Portishead and Pulp. Jane’s film roles include Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, Jacques Rivette’s La Belle Noiseuse and most recently Twice Born with Penélope Cruz. Jane was awarded an OBE and France’s Order of Merit for her contributions to music, film and the arts.

Andrew KotatkoWriter / Director / Producer

A screenwriting graduate of Binger Filmlab in The Netherlands, Andrew previously wrote and directed the multi-award winning short film Everything Goes (2004), based on a story by Raymond Carver and starring Hugo Weaving, Abbie Cornish and Sullivan Stapleton. He is also Australia’s most experienced music supervisor, having collaborated with directors such as Jane Campion, Fred Schepisi, Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson. Andrew’s latest short film is the AFI/AACTA Award winner Whoever Was Using This Bed (2016) starring Jean-Marc Barr, Radha Mitchell and Jane Birkin.

Marie SlaightExecutive Producer

Originally from Montreal, Marie has lived between New Orleans and Buenos Aires and is now based in Sydney, where she is the founder of Altaire Productions and Publications. Marie has produced, written and acted for both film and theatre, ran a gallery-theatre in Montreal and is an internationally published poet. Her acclaimed book The Antigone Poems was published in 2014.
